Seattle Hill Road residents present findings to city

The Mill Creek City Council aims to establish a working timeline at its Dec. 4 meeting for discussion and approval of selected roadway improvements and noise abatement projects along the Seattle Hill Road corridor.
On Tuesday, representatives from the Seattle Hill Road Citizens Advisory Group and KPG Consultants, an architectural consulting firm hired by the city in April to study the corridor, presented their recommendations to improve traffic flow and reduce noise along the roadway.
Proposals include installation of at least three roundabouts — a project that alone would cost the city upwards of $4 million — resurfacing select portions of the roadway with Quiet Pave asphalt and implementation of several traffic calming measures, including a reduced speed limit and posting of several stationary radar signs.
The projects combined carry a price tag of more than three times what the city spends annually on roadwork.
Residents had complained about noise and safety hazards on Seattle Hill Roads for years, before the Council ordered the corridor study eight months ago.
Based on the cost associated with the recommended improvements, council members said they will need time to weigh the benefits and consider the appropriate funding mechanism to pay for projects the affect just a portion of the city’s population.
Council members will use the time between meetings to examine the corridor study and compile questions and concerns for a discussion on Dec. 4.
