FIFE, Wash. — The State Patrol says a driver who rear-ended a state Transportation Department truck on I-5 at Fife has died.
The driver of the state truck was seriously injured in the accident Friday morning and is at Tacoma General Hospital.
Regional administrator Kevin Dayton says the worker had responded to an accident and had stopped his truck to pick up debris when it was rear-ended.
The truck has a large flashing arrow sign.
Dayton told KIRO Radio that accidents involving Transportation Department workers are the worst fear of his life.
