A World of Words in Shoreline

Northwest author Trisha Thomas comes to Shoreline Oct. 9 as part of the World of Words Literary Series, sponsored by the Shoreline-LFP Arts Council in collaboration with the Shoreline Library. Thomas, whose work is being compared to Terry McMillan and Bebe Moore Campbell, will talk about her two novels, “Nappily Ever After” and “Roadrunner.”
“Roadrunner,” published in June 2002, revolves around a major-league baseball player whose career is sidelined because of an injury. The novel chronicles his downward spiral into self-pity as he slips into prescription drug abuse and violence.
Thomas’ first novel, “Nappily Ever After,” published in 2000 and now available in paperback, was hailed as a smashing debut. A novel of love and self-awareness, the book provides insights into politics of beauty, black culture, and male-female relationships. “Nappily Ever After” was a finalist for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work of Fiction and was nominated for the Gold Pen Award for Best Mainstream Fiction and Best New Author, 2001. Oscar winning actress Halle Berry has developed the novel into a feature film that will open in theaters this fall.
On Oct. 15 the series switches to Tuesdays with the appearance of Seattle mystery writer Mary Morgan. Morgan’s latest book, “Deeper Waters,” debuted in June to critical acclaim. This followed “Willful Neglect,” the story of a medical malpractice case and The House at the Edge of the Jungle, a tale of an Englishwoman’s search for her past during World War II.
The series concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 22 with well-known medieval mystery writer, Candace Robb. Writing two series keeps Robb busy. Her Margaret Kerr Series has a Scottish medieval background and her longer-running Owen Archer series take place in Medieval England. Robb has always believed that libraries are magical places so participating in our series is a special treat.
Each author will talk about their most recent books, their ideas and writing process, and read a bit from their latest or soon to be published books. These free author events will be held at the Shoreline Library from 7-8 p.m. followed by a reception and book signings. Books will be available for purchase.
