LFP budget adoption set
Lake Forest Park City Council is slated to adopt the 2003 budget at its Dec. 12 meeting. Meetings are 7:30 p.m. at Lake Forest Park city hall council chambers, 17425 Ballinger Way NE.
Shoreline sets budget adoption
Shoreline City Council is slated to adopt the property tax levy and the 2003 budget on Nov. 25. Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. at the Shoreline Center Mt. Ranier room, 18560 1st Ave NE.
LFP comp. plan public hearing set
Lake Forest Park Planning Commission is holding a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 17425 Ballinger Way NE, Lake Forest Park to take input on proposed amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The proposed amendments represent a significant update to the Comprehensive Plan.
The Planning Commission started the process in Feb. 2001 by holding with two public meetings to gathered community input on different topics within the plan, such as land use, environmental quality, housing, human services, transportation, economic development, parks and recreation, utilities and capital facilities. After these public meetings, the commission sought input from various other City volunteer commissions. The commission has compiled and reviewed these comments along with recommendations from City staff, including changes required under the Growth Management Act, to develop a draft updated and amended Comprehensive Plan. The draft Comprehensive Plan has a new format and is designed to be a guide for growth and development within the City over the next twenty years.
After the Dec. 10 public hearing, the planning commission will develop a final recommendation that will be forwarded to the City Council for a final decision.
A summary of the proposed changes is available at the Planning Department at City Hall. Written comments can also be submitted to the Planning Department at 17425 Ballinger Way NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155. Written comments must be received by 5 p.m. on Dec. 10. Hansen recognized with IRS award
Shoreline City Council member Ron Hansen was recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as the 2002 Exemplary Electronic Return Originator award recipient. His tax firm, Hansen &McLaughlin, P.S., was the one tax firm in Washington that was recognized with this award, for filing income tax returns electronically with the IRS. Electronic filing is important to the IRS, officials said, because e-filed returns are more accurate, enable faster refunds, and Congress has set a goal of having 80 percent of all tax returns filed electronically by 2007.
Marrow drive registers many
The Shoreline Fire and Police Departments added 75 new people to the National Bone Marrow Registry it held on Sat. Nov. 16 on behalf of five-year-old Nicole Howard who has leukemia.
“Shoreline Fire Department would like to thank those who came to the drive and volunteered to be part of this potentially life-saving effort,” said Melanie Granfors, with the Shoreline Fire Department.
“Nicole Howard’s family is overwhelmed at the outpouring of support and they are grateful that so many people are willing to be on the registry because of Nicole, and others like her, who need a bone marrow transplant to survive.”
Thanksgiving Metro changes set
Bus passengers should be aware of changes in Metro Transit’s bus schedules on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29.
Sunday schedules will be in effect on all Metro Transit bus routes on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28. In addition, the Waterfront Streetcar will not operate and the downtown transit tunnel will be closed. Sound Transit Express service will also operate on a holiday schedule on Thanksgiving Day.
On Friday, Nov. 29, the majority of Metro’s routes – including the Waterfront Streetcar – will operate on a regular weekday schedule. However, the following routes are canceled (all have alternative service): Routes 45, 46, 64, 76, 77, 78, 79, 133, 197, 202, 205, 272, 277, 304, 308, 311, and 370. Sound Transit Express service will operate a weekday schedule on Nov. 29.
All Metro customer service offices – including Rider Information – will be closed on Thanksgiving Day only. Administrative offices and Accessible Services offices will be closed on Nov. 28 and 29.
