Local catches 55-pounder

Kirk Calkins of Lynnwood hauled in a 55-pound, 3-ounce king salmon while fishing near Westport last week. Calkins’ catch was 47 inches long and measured 31 inches around. It took Calkins, with the assistance of his wife Jean, 30 minutes to land the fish. Also witnessing the battle were the couple’s three children.

Robb takes first place

Pat Robb of the Nile Golf Club took first place in the amateur net (65 and older) division at the Western Washington Chapter PGA Senior Pro-Am Series event July 21 at Legion Memorial Golf Course.

Dan Smith of the Lynnwood Golf Club finished second in the professional net (45-53) division.

Meadowdale graduate Keith Coleman finished second in the professionals division July 25 at Alderbrook Golf Course. Ed Quick of the Lynnwood Golf Course also placed second in the amateur gross division.

Jeff Smarr of the Lynnwood Golf Course finished in a four-way tie for third in the amateur net division Aug. 2 at the Everett Golf and Country Club.
