Teacher honored with membership
The Washington State Music Teachers recently awarded Carolyn Malnes with an honorary life membership.
Malnes is a member of the Seattle Music Teachers Chapter and first president of the Edmonds Music Teachers Association.
She also served as president of the Washington State Music Teachers, National Chair of the Student Composition competition, and most recently was elected President-Elect of the Northwest Division.
Students run
mock businesses
Three students from Edmonds-Woodway High School traveled to Gonzaga University in Spokane for the 29th annual Business Week summer camp held from June 20-26.
Danielle Doster, Juan Acredo and Hien Nguyen joined more than 130 other students from around the state to learn important skills such as leadership, teamwork, interpersonal communication, negotiation and personal responsibility.
The students ran stimulated companies for a week, competing with one another as they worked to design, manufacture, market and sell a product.
EdCC faculty recognized
The Edmonds Community College Foundation awarded faculty and staff for exemplary service to students in 2004 at the college.
Barbara Harrell, adult high school and literacy coordinator in the developmental education division, received the Barbara Patterson Exempt Employee Award.
Jerry Rosenberg, computer science instructor, and Joyce Kruithof, developmental education and English-as-a-second-language instructor, were honored as exceptional faculty.
Iordan Iordanov, a custodian, and Joanne Dahl, an instructional tech in the college’s Business Information Technology Department, received Classified Excellence Awards.
Machiko Akasaka, a part-time Japanese language instructor, received the Part-Time Faculty Professional Development Award.
Jazz camp makes its debut at EdCC
Edmonds Community College’s Soundsation Jazz Camp will be held on campus August 1-7. The camp offers music theory classes, workshops and rehearsal sessions for jazz vocalists, instrumentalists, sound technicians and music educators.
Four performances will be open to the public:
Soundsation CD Release Party, Edmonds Community College’s vocal jazz choir performs selections from its CD, “Dig Count Basie,” a tribute to the music of the jazz bandleader and pianist, 7:30 p.m., Aug. 1, Triton Union Building 202. Free.
Just 4 Kicks, a zany a capella vocal quartet featuring Edmonds Community College’s music instructor Kirk Marcy, performs 7:30 p.m., Aug. 2, Triton Union Building 202. $10.
Duffy Jackson, the renowned drummer, bassist, pianist and vocalist, performs 7:30 p.m., Aug. 4, Triton Union Building 202. $10.
Gala Finale Concert, jazz camp singers and instrumentalists perform, 2 p.m., Aug. 7, Seaview Gym. Free.
“Stuff The Bus” Clothing Drive
Help YouthCare fill a bus with school supplies and new or used clothing from July 26th – Aug. 1 at Plado’s Closet in Alderwood Mall. The event is being sponsored by Plato’s Closet and Kiss 106.1.
Keola and Kiss 106.1 will be broadcasting live from location, where prizes will be given out for the most donations. If you would like to volunteer to help collect donations, please e-mail lori.moos@youthcare.org.
