MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — And the winners are …
The first, second and third placers of the first annual Lights of Terrace contest were announced at the Dec. 20 City Council meeting.
First place was given to Darin and Carla Schnee in the 6500 block of 227th Street SW for their home that “amazed all of the judges,” the coordinators said.
Ron and Shelley Warhol residing in the 22700 block of 42nd Place West were awarded second place for their home referred to as “the red and white house,” according to coordinators.
Rounding out the awards was Kathryn Gilbert who captured third place for displaying “gifts on the roof,” in the 22900 block of 57th Avenue W.
There were 15 homes entered, said Maria Quinteiro, who along with Christine Anderson spearheaded and coordinated the new community event.
Available City Council members, Angela Amundson and John Zambrano, and the two coordinators judged the entries.
Each homeowner who entered paid a $10 entry fee which benefited the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Center Scholarship fund through Windermere Real Estate/ HKW or Windermere Foundation, where the two ladies work out of the Lynnwood office.
“The participants in some neighborhoods collected over $1,000 in donations to support the Mountlake Terrace Concern for Neighbors Food Bank and the entry fees raised $130 for the City’s Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund,” said city officials. Windermere matched that amount for a total collection of $260 for the fund. “While there were not many official entries, the increased number of homes that were decorated for the holidays was noticeable,” city officials said.
Participants and judges alike said they hope this idea can carry on as an endearing holiday tradition for years to come.
