The Edmonds Police Department is asking the public for help in finding the person or persons responsible for beating and critically injuring two people Friday night, May 25, in the vicinity of Firdale Village Shopping Center.
The victims, an 18-year-old male from Edmonds and his 20-year-old girlfriend, had been beaten with a blunt instrument such as a baseball bat. They were admitted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center in critical condition but have been released and are recovering, according to the police report.
Edmonds police, responding to a report of someone crying for help, found the man at about 11:45 p.m. in the 9600 block of Firdale Avenue with injuries to his face and body. He was unable to tell officers what happened but it was apparent he had been badly beaten.
A police K9 unit backtracked the victim’s route to a residence in the 9600 block of 241st Place Southwest, where the assault appeared to have happened. At the same time, a 911 call came from that residence reporting a woman in need of help. She had been assaulted in the same manner as the man.
A preliminary investigation revealed that both victims left that residence and were assaulted as they walked from the residence to their vehicle. A neighbor observed a male wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap running from the area at the time of the assault.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the police tip line at 425-771-0212. Messages may be left anonymously.
