Spring flooding could be coming

With mountain snowpacks at record levels, emergency management officials warn of possible floods as the weather warms.

Federal Emergency Management Agency regional administrator Susan Reinertson says to inventory and restock 72-hour emergency kits with fresh water, food, prescription medication, flashlight and radio batteries and keep disaster kits at home, in cars and at work.

Consider flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program.

Maximum coverage for single-family homes is $250,000 for the structure and $100,000 for contents. Renters can also insure their belongings for up to $100,000. Businesses can insure buildings for up to $500,000 for the structure and contents for up to $500,000.

For information about the NFIP, contact insurance agents or call 800-427-4661.

The Snohomish County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program will offer a four-day training session June 4, 6, 10 and 12. For more information, call Michal Glauner at 425-388-7393 or e-mail michal.glauner@co.snohomish.wa.us.
