Stand at crosswalk and re-evaluate

In response to the Friday letter, “Seattle Hill Road changes are selfish”:

I am one of these so-called “well-to-do” citizens whose property backs up to Seattle Hill Road that the writer thinks is causing him inconvenience. I can say that I am neither “well to do” nor a member of the Citizen Advisory Group.

The premise of the writer’s argument cannot be backed up. How does he know “there is no evidence” that there are fewer accidents or a decrease in noise?

If the hundreds of cars obeyed the law and traveled below 25 mph, then there might indeed be evidence that in fact fewer accidents and less noise occur.

He is the one traveling through my neighborhood and although I acknowledge he has the right to do that, he could also use the Bothell-Everett Highway and 132nd Street SE to complete his journey. These roads, both dual carriageway with 40-45 mph speed limits, are much more suited than using the “rat run” through Mill Creek.

He should come and stand at the pedestrian crossing and see cars whizzing by at ridiculous speeds that put our kids, older residents and animals in mortal danger before he states my and others’ objections are unfounded.

The only one who is selfish here is someone who is not prepared to take some inconvenience to allow others some peace and quiet.
