Seeing stars: Idaho is an easy state to take for granted. Don’t.

This neighbor offers superb and varied scenery, with sun-swept valleys and rocky peaks. As one of the least populated states, you can still fish in a pristine stream or disappear in the mountains for weeks.

Most people are friendly and laid back. Most days, you can actually find a camping spot. And in Idaho, you can still see the stars at night.

Self-described “relative newcomer” to the state Wendy Pabich has written a travel guide, “Idaho: An Explorer’s Guide” ($21.95). We’ll look past her outsider status — this book is packed with information on where to stay, what to do and what to see. It’s arranged by region, making it easy to plan.
