KENNEWICK — Four days later and little changed between the Everett Silvertips and Tri-City Americans.

With the teams meeting for the second consecutive game, Tri-City again took it to Everett in a 2-1 decision Wednesday night.

With the venue switched from Everett to Kennewick, Taylor Procyshen scored both Tri-City goals as the Americans followed up Saturday’s 7-2 victory with another dominating effort. Though it ended up being a one-goal game, Tri-City controlled play and outshot Everet 39-14.

With the victory Tri-City (17-7-0-2) moved into first place in the Western Hockey League’s U.S. Division, one point ahead of Spokane.

Tyler Maxwell scored midway through the third period to give Everett (13-10-3-0) a glimmer of hope, but late penalties doomed the Tips’comeback chances.

Shayne Barrie kept Everett in the game, finishing with 37 saves in goal.

Both teams were missing key components who were with Team WHL at the Canada-Russia Challenge. Tri-City was missing No. 1 goaltender Chet Pickard and head coach Don Nachbaur, while the Tips were without star winger Kyle Beach.

But Everett put little pressure on Tri-City goaltender Drew Owsley, a 17-year-old rookie with just four games of prior WHL experience.

The Americans pinned the Tips back in the first period as Everett didn’t register its first shot on goal until 11 minutes had run off the clock. However, Owsley was called upon to make a couple big saves on Daniel Bartek later in the period before Tri-City found the opener with 17 seconds remaining. On the power play Procyshen took a shot that Barrie could only get a piece of, giving the Americans a 1-0 lead.

The Americans continued to pour on the pressure in the second period and doubled their lead at 10:50. Tri-City countered quickly and off the rush Adam Hughesman fed a backdoor pass for Procyshen to put in at the far post, making it 2-0. Tri-City outshot Everett 21-5 in the period.

Everett gave itself a lifeline with 7:23 remaining when a nice passing move between Kellan Tochkin and Byron Froese opened up a chance for Maxwell to score on a one-timer, making it 2-1.

However, the Tips thwarted any opportunity to tie it up with a late lack of discipline. Cameron Abney took a checking-from-behind penalty and Graham Potuer a double-minor for spearing, forcing the Tips to spend the final 3:16 killing off penalties.
