U.S. 2 reopened at Stevens Pass

STEVENS PASS – Officials have opened U.S. 2 at the pass in both directions.

The road was closed earlier this afternoon because of multiple avalanches. Transportation crews began avalanche control work at 4 p.m.

Chains are required for all vehicles except all-wheel drive, according to the state Department of Transportation Web site.

The conditions may change any time, Washington State Patrol trooper Keith Leary said. “We just want people to be prepared for winter driving in the passes.”
