Kitsap teen charged with murder

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — A 17-year-old boy from Kitsap County has pleaded not guilty to aggravated first-degree murder in the stabbing death of an elderly neighbor whose lawn he once mowed.

Daniel James Mustard entered the plea Wednesday in Superior Court. He faces an automatic life sentence without parole if convicted; minors cannot receive the death penalty.

Detectives say Mustard stabbed 87-year-old Ruby Andrews while robbing her at her home Sunday in the small community of Colchester. He then allegedly stole the woman’s white Cadillac, picked up two of his 15-year-old friends and told them about the crime, showing them cell phone pictures of Andrews lying in a pool of blood in her bathroom.
