Seahawks vs. Texans game thread

Well that was quick
Just one play into the game the Seahawks are trailing 7-0 thanks to a 64-yard touchdown pass to Andre Johnson. Johnson simply blew by Marcus Trufant on the play and Matt Schaub hit him in stride down the sideline for an easy touchdown.
And the Seahawks go three-and-out
For those of you wondering why the Seahawks handed off on third-and-17, my theory is this: they wanted to put the ball in the hands of their most productive player… Jon Ryan.
Texans lead 10-0
And the Seahawks should feel lucky that it’s not 14-0. Houston was moving the ball at will until the drive finally stalled out at the Seattle 11-yard line, setting up a 29-yard Kris Brown field goal.
The Seahawks offense really needs to get a few first downs, if not score, to give the defense a break.
Another Seattle three-and-out
So much for keeping the defense off the field. The Texans have the ball once again, and will start with good field position again thanks to a 15-yard, late-hit penalty by Aaron Curry on the punt return. So far the Seahawks offense has gained all of nine yards, and the Seahawks have 20 yards of penalties.
And another score for Houston
The Texans turned that good field position into a 17-0 lead, scoring on a 4-yard run by Ryan Moats.
I’d say this couldn’t get much worse for the Seahawks, but this early in the game it just feels like there are plenty more ways for Seattle to mess this up more.
Andre Johnson limped off the field on the drive, but came back in the game a few plays later.
The Texans did lead 17-0 over Indy as well this season and ended up losing, so perhaps that’s a bit of consolation for Seahawks fans watching this mess. Then again, the Seahawks didn’t have Peyton Manning and the Colts’ offense last I checked.
Andre Johnson 12, Seahawks 0
Oh, and the Texans lead 24-0 after Johnson’s second touchdown of the day, a 17-yarder. He now has six catches for 117 yards with more than 12 minutes left in the half.
And would you look at that, the Seahawks finally picked up a first down… thanks to a late-hit penalty. Through four possessions Seattle has not picked up a first down by actually moving the ball 10 yards.
This may be the Seahawks worst start to a game yet this season, and that’s saying quite a bit.
Hey, the Seahawks did something good
Craig Terrill blocked a field goal attempt, so the Seahawks still trail by “only” 24. Good times.
At 24-0, the Seahawks are in their biggest first-half hole of the year, surpassing the 21-0 deficit they faced in Minnesota.
Well would you look at that? The Seahawks scored
It’s now 24-7 with 1:14 left in the half after the Seahawks somehow managed to go 84-yards in six plays for a touchdown. John Carlson (remember him?) caught a 4-yard touchdown to cap a drive that featured three straight plays of 22 or more yards.
A missed field goal keeps the score at 24-7 at half
Kris Brown missed from 48 yards at the end of the half, meaning the Seahawks still trail by 17. Is it a bad sign if the Seahawks are down 17 at halftime and my thought is, “they’re lucky to be not be down more?” I’d say so.
The Seahawks were out-gained that half 364 to 109. Matt Schaub is 24 for 28 for 336 yards and two scores.
Seattle will get the ball to start the half though, so it is possible this could become a game again.
Hasselbeck sidelined
Matt Hasselbeck took a hard hit as he completed a pass to Nate Burleson on the first play of the half, and had to leave the game. With Seneca Wallace in the game the Seahawks ended up punting four plays later.
No word yet on what the injury is, though Hasselbeck is still on the sideline, so we may still see him return.
Hasselbeck’s return “questionable”
The Seahawks quarterback has a shoulder injury, and his return is questionable. Hasselbeck landed hard on his right shoulder when he was hit by DeMeco Ryans. Hasselbeck missed a day of practice this week with a sore shoulder.
Well, so much for that. As I wrote that the Seahawks forced a punt (the first of the day for Houston) and Hasselbeck is back in the huddle as the Seahawks take the field.
Texans add to lead
It’s now 27-7 after a Kris Brown field goal. Hasselbeck’s return didn’t help the Seahawks on that last drive, another three-and-out that ended with Hasselbeck getting sacked.
At least that was something different
So far the Seahawks had been getting their tails handed to them without turning the ball over. Not anymore, however. Just two plays after Marcus Trufant (to this point known as “the guy chasing Andre Johnson around the field” intercepted Matt Schaub after Johnson slipped on his route, Matt Hasselbeck was intercepted by Bernard Pollard, who returned it 71 yards for a touchdown.
Oh yeah, there’s still a game going on
Sorry for the lack of updates, but there’s really not a whole lot left to say about this game. It’s still 34-7 Houston in case you’ve thrown the remote through your TV and wanted to know the score.
Unless something really unusual happens, like a Seahawks first down, this will probably be it for the game thread.
