Gas prices creeping upward across U.S.

The average price of regular gasoline in the United States is up 3.8 cents over a three-week period to $2.85.

The price shows an increase of 80 cents from a year ago. That’s according to the national Lundberg Survey of fuel prices.

Analyst Trilby Lundberg says the average price for a gallon of mid-grade was $2.98. Premium was at $3.09.

Newark, N.J., had the lowest average price among cities surveyed at $2.64 a gallon for regular. Honolulu, Hawaii, was highest at $3.43.

Diesel was at $3.06, up nearly 10 cents from two weeks ago.

In California, the average price for a gallon of regular was up 1.89 cents to $3.06.

Stockton had California’s least expensive gas at $3.02 a gallon. San Francisco came in the most expensive at $3.11.
