Symphony tunes up

The newly formed Everett Philharmonic launches its debut performance with conductor Paul-Elliott Cobbs at “Spring Fling,” a mini-concert and dinner-dance to kick off the philharmonic’s new season with a sneak preview of their concert program.

“Spring Fling” starts at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the Edward D. Hansen Ballroom at the Comcast Events Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Cost is $60 and includes a gourmet dinner. For tickets, go to www.everettphil.org or call Cami Davis at 206-270-9729.

Kids plant trees: In honor of Arbor Day, Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson and fifth graders from Immaculate Conception &Our Lady of Perpetual Help School are scheduled to plant trees at 1 p.m. today at Bayside Park, 2200 Grand Ave. in Everett.

The city will receive its 15th annual designation as a Tree City USA from the National Arbor Day Foundation.

The Snohomish County PUD will receive the foundation’s Tree Line Award.

Dump your junk: Sultan residents can dispose of old batteries, motor oil and other hazardous household items for free during Community Clean-Up Day.

The annual event will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Eighth Street entrance to the Sultan High School, 13715 310th Ave. SE. Not all items can be dumped for free. Refrigerators and freezers have a $30 disposal fee. Pre-pay by Friday at City Hall, 319 Main St.
