Painter’s art aims to bring joy

Award-winning Northwest artist Jennifer Bowman sees art as more than just a tangible work. She sees it as a way to bring happiness. This philosophy informs her new collection, showing for the month of June at Cole Gallery in Edmonds.

Bowman, who currently lives in Anacortes, paints expressively chromatic pieces that instantly bring smiles. “My art is just happy,” Bowman stated in a press release. Hues of yellow, blue, green, red, and purple grace her canvas – she doesn’t even own a black or brown pallet in her supplies. Bowman achieves her deep shadows by mixing several more dynamic colors together.

The response to Bowman’s art tends to be visceral. Her cubistic like images of poppies, landscapes, and birds are some of her most notable works.

Bowman has been awarded as a Skagit Valley Tulip Poster Artist as well as the Edmonds Arts Festival Poster Artist. People from all over the world collect her pieces.

In addition, Bowman’s art has been on the cover of 48 Degrees North, a Seattle-based Sailing Magazine, six times. This is fitting, as Bowman’s work really began to take shape while spending two years aboard a sailboat touring the west coast with her husband. There, she spent every day painting, immersing herself in nature and marine living. This diligent practice gave her the experience of a seasoned artist – which shows up in her new pieces currently on display.
