50 YEARS AGO (1959)

Appointment of Dr. Joe E. Weber, Everett dentist, to the city morals council was announced today by City Safety Commissioner C. Arvid Johnson. Other members of the council were the Rev. John W. Larsen, Rev. Father Edmond Long, A.J. “Dolph” Rae, Glen Miner and Walter Lovejoy.

Rita Norling would do a Hawaiian dance and Janice Gellatly, a student of Betty Spooner, would do a Spanish dance this Sunday at Music in the Bowl at Forest Park. Norma and Dusty Neely were arranging the program.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)

Plans to make downtown Everett a haven for pedestrians went by the wayside as pounding jackhammers cracked and crumbled sidewalks to make room for more parking along Colby Avenue. The project also included removal of the red-tiled walkways, the old site of a controversial sculpture and a number of trees. The improvements had been done in the mid-1970s.

Monte’s anniversary and back-to-school sale was on. Jackets, jeans, slacks, fashion tops and dress shirts were on sale. Monte’s at Colby Avenue and California Street had styles for young men and men who looked young.
