Everett: Top Mom and Dad Awards

Deaconess Children’s Services will host its annual Father and Mother of the Year awards at 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Floral Hall, 802 East Mukilteo Blvd. in Everett.

The event will include dessert, a wine auction, raffle and fashion show for moms.

Everett: Domestic violence event will feature UW coach

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County will have its fifth annual Hope Within Luncheon on Oct. 8 at the Comcast Arena in Everett. University of Washington head basketball coach Lorenzo Romar will be keynote speaker.

Cost of the luncheon is $10 per seat or $100 for a table of 10.

The nonprofit group operates a 24-hour hotline and other programs to assist victims of domestic violence.

Everett: Sign up for cultural workshops

The city’s next free cultural workshops are scheduled for Oct. 2, 9 and 16 at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.

The following sessions are scheduled:

Oct. 2 Russian/Ukraine culture: 9 a.m. to noon; African-American culture: 1 to 4 p.m.

Oct. 9 Native American culture: 9 a.m. to noon; Latin-American culture 1 to 4 p.m.

Oct. 16: Asian Pacific culture: 9 a.m. to noon; African refugee culture: 1 to 4 p.m.

Everett: Transit plans Pinehurst meeting

Officials from Everett Transit plan to talk at the Pinehurst Neighborhood Meeting about possible changes to bus service in November.

Anyone may attend the meeting, which is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Cascade High School, 801 Casino Road.

Help domestic violence victims

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is offering a five-week volunteer training class for anyone willing to commit to 10 hours of volunteer time within a six-month period to the organization.

The classes will begin Oct. 4 and will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evenings through Nov. 1. One Saturday training session is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9. The sessions will be held in Everett.
