Businesses band together, promote local

With the holiday shopping season openers Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming this week, local business owners are advising shoppers to keep it local this season.

The Mill Creek Business Association is inaugurating a Buy Mill Creek program aimed at alerting consumers about the selection and sustainability of area merchants.

“We are hoping to bring awareness of the great small business in the Mill Creek Community,” said Association Vice President Jody Bossert who also co-owns Elle Marie Hair Studio.

Participating merchants are presenting special offers, holiday merchandise and seasonal messages.

“This is the first time we are doing this,” said Bossert. “Once we get a year under out belt, next year will be bigger and better.”

The association points out, through its website www.buymillcreek.org, that dollars spent locally has three times the impact on the community as dollars spent elsewhere. Local businesses create local jobs, fund city services through sales tax and promote community development.

Businesses offering discounts and specials include: Elle Marie Hair Studio, North Creek Roofing and The Petal and the Stem. Merchants offering special holiday messages include: A Change is Afoot, Bryan Hendrickson – Waddell &Reed, Farmers Insurance of Mill Creek, Just2Dads of Allstate, Lorbaniah Cameography, Musings Artist Inspired, Nancy’s Noahs Ark, Reigning Imagination Toys, SmartEats and Whidbey Island Bank.
