Lovick, County Councilman Sullivan kick off re-election bids

Snohomish County Sheriff John Lovick and County Councilman Brian Sullivan have announced their 2011 re-election bids.

The two Democratic incumbents kicked off campaigns this week. Both were first elected to county posts in 2007.

Lovick is a retired Washington State Patrol trooper. Before becoming sheriff, he represented the state’s 44th Legislative District and served on the Mill Creek City Council.

Sullivan represents the Everett and Mukilteo areas for the council’s District 2. The former restaurant owner previously represented the state’s 21st Legislative District and served as Mukilteo’s mayor.

Also seeking election is Democrat Stephanie Wright, a former Lynnwood city councilwoman who was appointed to represent Snohomish County Council District 3 last year. She is vying for her first elected term at the county.

Snohomish County Republican Party Chairman Bill Cooper said he is working to field vetted GOP candidates for the County Council and sheriff races.

There are no official candidates until filing week, which is June 6-10. The top two candidates, regardless of party, from the Aug. 16 primary advance to the Nov. 8 general election.
