Time to evaluate the candidates

I know it is still 17 months away from state and federal elections and already politicians are throwing their hats into the ring.

I do not vote along party lines, only for candidates I see fit to run for office. As the 2012 elections approach, I will be making my list of candidates. As soon as I see a candidate use a smear tactic and bad-mouth others, that person will be crossed off the list. I would like a person seeking office to just say “This is who I am and this is my platform.”

Each candidate should examine their past to be sure nothing will tarnish their campaign. All too many have things hidden from their college days, or they’ve lied about their military service, infidelity, etc. If anything is there, it’s guaranteed the press will find it.

I would like to add my one personal feeling about a presidential candidate and that is that the person should be required to have past military service in order to be commander and chief of this great country.

Guess I will start my list now. But, in the past four decades, by the time elections are upon us, I have had no one left on the list. Where have all the good men and women gone?
