Taste beer: The Snohomish Brewfest offers beer aficionados the chance to sample some brews on Saturday. Tickets are $25 and include dinner and five tasting tokens. Tickets for dinner only are $15. Read more about it in our story here.
Autumn fun: The Schack Art Center opens its doors this weekend for its first-ever harvest festival that won’t be short on pumpkins, hay bales or bratwurst. Visitors can check out a huge glass-pumpkin patch and watch glassblowers create more throughout the weekend. The event will also include pumpkin-carving demonstrations. For those over 21, Schack-toberfest features a “Beer, Brat & Glass Pumpkin” event on Saturday night. Visitors can drink a beer, eat a brat and watch master glassblowers compete to make the biggest pumpkin, which will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Get all the details, along with a list of other ideas for fall fun, in our story here.
Look for ghosts: On Saturday, take a walk through Darrington to visit sites of strange historical events. You can hear the tales and see re-enactments of never-solved mysteries. Find more details here.
Shop for junk: Wait, it’s not what you think. Junk in this case is liberally defined. Ruffles & Rust is a vintage flea market with more than 50 Northwest vendors, including artists, crafters, antiques dealers and quilters. The event is Friday and Saturday at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. Read more in our story here.
Prepare your garden: We’ve had some crazy winters lately. You can learn what you need to do to get your garden ready at a free class, ‘Winterizing Tender and Tropical Plants & Other Mysteries Solved” at 10 p.m. on Saturday at Sunnyside Nursery, 3915 Sunnyside Blvd. in Marysville. The nursery appreciates a call to let them know you’re coming, 425-334-2002. Learn more at their website here.
Catch a concert: Big names play in Seattle this weekend. You can catch Journey on Friday. The iconic rock band of the 1970s is back on the road ahead of its forthcoming “Greatest Hits 2.” They will be joined in concert by Foreigner. Then, on Saturday, Bellingham band Death Cab for Cutie will perform, along with rising stars the Head & the Heart, who are local. Death Cab is known for its alt-rock hits, including “Meet Me on the Equinox.” Find all the details in our story here.
See “The Hobbit” live: Journey to Middle-earth and meet up with Bilbo, Gandalf, Gollum and other favorites from the classic book. The play features a cast of actors ages 10 to 13 and is suggested for audiences ages 4 and up. Opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Whidbey Children’s Theater, 222 Anthes Ave., Langley.
