50 years ago (1961)

Arne Sunde, The Everett Herald’s controller, was recently among of group of newspaper people who were guests of President John F. Kennedy. The group ate in the main state dining room in the White House where the president conducted an informal discussion. Later they were taken on a tour of the presidential mansion.

Chic Alleckson was elected Everett High School Homecoming Queen. Princesses were Lorna Melling, Susan Lucas, Daly Foss and Sue McDannald. Ushers were Henry Mathews, Mark Schlosser, Bob Wallace, Dick French and Roger Bruett.

25 years ago (1986)

Those to be honored at a United Nations Day event in Everett were Story Tellers for Peace, which sent schoolchildren to the Soviet Union; Central Lutheran Church of Everett, which organized missionary work in South Africa; Andy Suzuki, who helped establish a Japanese Institute at Everett Community College; and Farhang Javid, who worked with businesses in developing countries.

Willy O’Neil of Everett was featured in a television ad in Slade Gorton’s bid for the U.S. Senate. O’Neil, who came from an active political family, could be seen sitting in front of a gas station in Seattle’s Northgate area.
