50 years ago (1961)

Everett Golf and Country members held turkey shoot play over the weekend. Saturday’s winners were Jim Cuthill, Bill Shaeffer and Earl Mackey. Harry Botesch, Everett Peterson Otis Almvig were runners-up. Stan Berhhoft, Cecil Cole and Norm O’Donnell were the winners yesterday. Paul Alley was runner-up.

Bartholomew-Nichols Co. at 3019 Broadway advertised that Signal stove oil burned completely for cleaner heat. No waste meant less housecleaning and fewer fuel bills.

25 years ago (1986)

Port of Everett commissioners settled on a new plan for paying off the $20 million debt incurred by the acquisition of a Weyerhaeuser Co. mill site last year. The purchase of the 55-acre parcel of land for future port development had been financed to date on short-term notes.

Mukilteo residents who wanted to get rid of the large fuel tanks on the city’s waterfront were told by Mayor Emory Cole that the city would question state and federal agencies about the continued presence of the fuel depot. The major question was whether they were really necessary or left over by a bygone era.
