Defense inspector examines Stryker maintenance

TACOMA — A Defense Department inspector is taking a close look at the contract for maintenance of the Army’s Stryker vehicles.

A new report said the Army could be saving money on its contract with General Dynamics to maintain roughly 1,000 Army Strkyer vehicles at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The News Tribune reported the defense department inspectors because the Army may have spent millions of dollars to plan ahead on expected maintenance needs, instead of just saving the money for when it was needed. The report said this spending happened because of the audit and expectations about what it would find about the Army’s costs.

General Dynamics did not respond to written questions for this story and the Inspector General did not return a call for comment.
