Significance: This Tumblr appeared in February 2012 as Aaron Reardon was facing intense political and legal pressure connected to the Washington State Patrol’s investigation of his spending habits. Posts to the page attack police, politicians, witnesses and journalists covering the story.
Key details: The top post on the page Feb. 25, 2012, is a verbatim copy of the complaint Reardon aide Kevin Hulten made about WSP detectives two days earlier. In the upper right corner, people are encouraged to follow the site through a now-defunct Twitter account for “Lain Coubert” (@La1nc0ub3rt). This appears to be the first time that identity became associated with Reardon’s troubles. The site also links to County Confidential, a Tumblr that was created in support of Reardon’s 2011 re-election campaign.
