50 years ago (1963)

Everett Fireside of Horizon Clubs was sponsoring an all-city Horizon Club father-daughter banquet at the Elks Club. Lynn Dempsey was general chair. Fireside President Jane Gall would emcee a style show. Barbara Brannon was working on publicity. Men taking part were Richard Brannon and Dwayne Lane.

Eight Camp Fire Girls with burlap bags slung over their shoulders picked up litter next to Highway 99. After five hours of work, they delivered the goods to the city dump. The girls picking up the litter were Nancy Josephson, Audi Carpenter, Glenda Garka, Dixie Green, Julie Ann Cavalero, Vicki Pfeifer, Wendy Hysjulien and Mary Ann Berg.

25 years ago (1988)

Hal Reasby, the Edmonds School District superintendent and one of south Snohomish County’s most influential leaders, said he would retire his post June 30. Reasby became superintendent in 1980 after serving for decades with the Seattle schools system.

E and E PRO Home Center at 1364 State Ave. in Marysville had February bargains. A Lifesaver smoke alarm was $4.99. An Empire straight sweep broom was $3.99.
