50 years ago (1963)

“Prepare — To Be The Best” was the title chosen for the Secretarial Seminar-Workshop to be held by the Ttereve Chapter of the National Secretaries Association on Nov. 9 at Cascade High School. Chairwoman Margaret Christopherson, Geraldine Woltring, co-chairwoman, and Elizabeth Sipprell, registration chair, were diligently at work planning the various activities, including five workshops.

Glenda Fetter, of 1526 Rainier Ave., Susan Richards, of 3518 Hoyt Ave., and Douglas Weir, of 2316 McDougall Ave., all freshmen at Everett Junior College, were the recipients of $120 scholarships from North Everett Lions Club. Club President Roy Carter presented the awards.

25 years ago (1988)

The Volunteers of America’s new Human Service Center on the southwest corner of Broadway and California Street would open to the public later this week. The recently completed building would allow the VOA to assist more than 150,000 residents.

Linda Carlson Varick was promoted to manager of the Travel Connection in Everett. She was responsible for all areas of travel planning and counseling. Peggy Gavilanes, co-owner, was working on appointments in group travel, cruises and personal travel.
