Freshly uncovered, Everett boulder takes to Twitter

EVERETT — A prehistoric boulder unearthed at a downtown construction site wasted no time adapting to the modern world.
By Thursday morning, the 2-million-year-old rock had its own social media presence, namely a Twitter account, @EverettBoulder, serving up a steady stream of wit.
“Finally some air! It’s been pretty stuffy down there for the last few thousand years,” read the inaugural post.
The discovery of the 300,000-pound rock on Nov. 13 halted work at the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel project at the intersection of Colby Avenue and Wall Street. A hulking excavator couldn’t lift it and crews pondered what to do next. Crush it into gravel? Donate it to the city?
“Please don’t smash me to bits,” implored one of the giant stone’s tweets.
The rock’s personality surfaced after a story published Thursday in The Daily Herald, picked up by newspapers and other media outlets all over the country.
“Sweet, I’m in the @washingtonpost!” gushed the rock.

Asked for comment, the boulder tweeted back: “I’m doing my best not to take the fame for granite.”
