Children need seniors’ support

The Herald has recently published letters supporting the upcoming Marysville School bond issue. Those letter give adequate reasons for supporting this measure.

As a senior citizen now, I recognize that a lot seniors supported school levy and bond issues as my children were going through the public schools. I feel that I should also support this issue. I will note that I have had grandchildren go through Marysville schools and currently have one now at Marysville Pilchuck High School.

Lots of my senior friends have had body “replacement parts,” due to the original ones being worn out. What the bond issue will do is replace worn-out facilities that are between 50 and 60 years old.

Do we, as seniors, like to see our property taxes increased? Of course not. But when it comes to paying a small amount versus giving better educational opportunities to our Marysville children, the choice is a clear one. I should also note that some prior bond issues have now been paid off and the new bonds are replacing some prior ones.

I sometimes hear grumbling about school personnel and their work hours and their pay for services. I can state as a fact that I have delivered items to a couple of our elementary schools, between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m., over the past few years. I see teachers and administrators already on the job preparing for their students. I firmly believe our educators work hard and have their students best interests in mind.

I wholeheartedly support this issue and ask that other seniors and all of our citizens cast a yes vote for out children as this will benefit all Marysville School District citizens.
