Everett’s inclusive measure is so unnecessary

I read with interest the front-page article, “Measure would declare Everett inclusive.” I am writing to express my concern about recent discussion and the pending resolution to declare Everett to be an inviting and equitable city for all. I have been associated with the city for over 70 years, and never have I seen any actions that would represent hostility or grievance against anyone, resident or visitor.

The mayor said that several people had expressed concerns for their safety. If that is true, he should have referred them to the police department. It has always been the duty of the police to insure the safety of all city residents. If the complaint is valid, the police always insure the issue is resolved, and if the threat level justifies, a criminal complaint is forth coming.

If Mayor Stephanson and Councilwoman Franklin really want to put their best foot forward in this issue, I suggest the following: When Councilwoman Franklin brings the resolution before council, that it has the added wording that any safe zones established, be within their immediate neighborhoods so they can watch over and protect them.

Let’s quit trying to solve nonexistent problems, and get on with betterment for all.
