Celebrate: Bunny slope takes on new meaning

Stevens Pass again offers special activities to celebrate Easter on Sunday.

A nondenominational sunrise service at the mountain top is set for 8 a.m. Registration starts at 7 at the Stevens blue tent in the base area outside Tye Creek Lodge. Scenic riders are welcome, or ski or board your way back down after the short service.

A mountain-wide egg hunt follows, starting at 9. There will be three golden eggs good for 2017-18 season passes. Other prizes include hot chocolate coupons, lift tickets and more. Egg hunts for kids ages 12 and younger will be at 9:30. Eggs will be hidden in snow piles outside the lodge, including one golden egg for each age group containing a surprise.

All activities are free.

Find a list of other local egg hunts inside today’s Herald.

Plant: How to be power-line friendly

Snohomish County PUD offers ideas for spring planting around your home to minimize power outages. Trees and other brush growing into power lines are a major cause of power outages during storms.

If you’re planting trees or shrubs in an area near power lines, consider varieties that mature at 25 feet or less. These include evergreen huckleberry, Japanse maple, oceanspray, red flowering currant, vine maple, flowering cherry, serviceberry, witch hazel, star magnolia and wild rose.

Keep in mind, some tags you find on plants at home improvement stores or nurseries don’t list mature heights — if you’re not sure, ask an employee.
