Now that it looks like it is a certainty that Judy Tuohy and Cassie Franklin will be the winners of the recent primary in the race to become Everett’s next mayor, it guarantee’s that history will be made in November in the general election. Never before has the city of Everett had a woman as mayor, and both wonderful candidates are excellent choices who will provide a breath of fresh air for the citizens of Everett.

Editor’s note: While Everett voters have never elected a woman to the mayor’s office, City Council member Joyce Ebert was appointed and served as mayor from Oct. 11 to Dec. 21, 1977, completing the final two months of Mayor Robert Anderson’s term following his resignation.
