Education’s share of lottery funding is too small

Why is the amount of funds from the Washington State Lottery that go to public education limited to only 18.8 percent? The winners get 62.2 percent and the other costs are incidental.

If the amount allocated to education were 45 percent and to winners 45 percent, then the lottery would be a win-win situation for all of Washington. I believe other states have set that 50 percent of profits on the lottery go to education. Oh well, Washington has always seen fit to spend the money then establish a tax to cover it. I have not bought a ticket in 20 years and urge others to do the same until the lottery starts making a difference.
