Community roundup: Everett soccer team wins U-17 state title

The Everett-based Washington Rush boys soccer team for 2001-born players is a state champion once again.
The Rush claimed a second state championship by winning the 2018 boys under-17 division of the US Youth Soccer Washington State Championships, which is the highest level of competition among Washington Youth Soccer’s four state tournaments. The Rush won the under-16 title last year.
The Rush went 2-1 in pool play to tie for first and advance to the knockout rounds, then advanced to the final four by defeating the Spokane Sounders 3-1 on Feb. 4 at Kasch Park in Everett.
Then this weekend at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, the Rush beat the Greater Seattle Surf 2-0 Saturday in the semifinals to advance to the championship game. Sunday’s title contest against Washington Premier FC from Puyallup was scoreless through two halves and overtime before going to penalty kicks, which the Rush won 4-2.
The Rush roster included Sebastian Figueroa, Jaxon Baker, Noah Venditto, Connor Ruis, Harrison Rohrbough, Dante Bianco, Kaleb Ruiz, Kevin Giessler, Maxwell Stultz, Joseph Richardson, Ethan Fuerte, Andrew Polly, Kaydin Wall, Marco Quezada, Sebastian Olson and Jake Williams. They were coached by Andy Machin.
Everett CC hits ranking milestone
For the first time in school history the Everett Community College men’s basketball team is on top of the rankings.
The Trojans moved into the top spot of the Northwest Athletic Conference men’s basketball coaches poll when it was released Feb. 6. Everett was previously ranked second, but passed Portland for the top spot. The Trojans are 8-1 in regional play and 20-4 overall, having won eight straight, and have a two-game lead over Bellevue in the North Region.
Everett’s women, who are 7-1 in regional play and 18-4 overall, held steady at No. 6 in the women’s coaches poll. The Trojan women also lead the North Region, holding a one-game lead over Bellevue and Skagit Valley.
