EARTH DAY
Earth Day is Sunday. Some of the activities planned for the weekend:
County celebration
The Snohomish County Earth Day Celebration runs 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the county campus plaza at 3000 Rockefeller Ave. (If it rains, head indoors to the first floor of the east administration building.) Educational displays, giveaways, electronics recycling, food trucks and more.
Volunteers also are welcome to tree-planting events 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary (6900 Seaway Blvd., Everett) and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kayak Point Park (15610 Marine Drive, Stanwood).

Beautify Terrace park
Mountlake Terrace invites the community to help beautify Ballinger Park, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Ballinger Clubhouse, 23000 Lakeview Drive. Tasks include pruning, trash pick-up, raking and the like.

Earthy activities in Marysville
Help plant trees to restore Middle Fork Quilceda Creek, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Strawberry Fields Park, 6100 152nd St. NE, Marysville. Arlington, the Tulalip Tribes and the Adopt A Stream Foundation also help sponsor this community event.
Learn about native plants, see baby coho in the fish camera, play games, drink hot chocolate, decorate a free T-shirt and more. All ages, rain or shine.

March in Everett…
An Earth Day Climate March will start at 3 p.m. Sunday from Everett Community College and proceed a little more than two miles to the Snohomish County complex. Meet at the EvCC parking lot on Wetmore Avenue. Parking is $3.
Later, Junior Geezer plays an Earth Day concert to benefit 350 Everett, the local climate action group that is organizing the march and other activities. The concert is at 6 p.m. at Tony V’s Garage, 1761 Hewitt Ave., Everett. By donation.

An Earth Day March starts at 1 p.m. Sunday, organized by Snohomish Rising. Meet at Angel Arms, 230 Ave. B, then march to a rally at the midpoint, on First Street, before continuing on to the Centennial Trailhead at Second Street and Lincoln Avenue. Rain or shine.

HEADS UP
Avoid Seattle this weekend
Major delays are expected through Seattle this weekend as crews start repairing I-5. The interstate will be down from four lanes to two in a northbound section between the West Seattle Bridge and Olive Way. Heavy congestion also is expected on alternate routes.
“We need weekend travelers to avoid I-5 this weekend,” said WSDOT Traffic Engineer Mike Swires in a statement.
This is the first of six weekend lane closures planned for the “Revive I-5” project, which will repair pavement from the West Seattle Bridge to Highway 520. Closures are expected into the summer.
