When did defying rules that protect others become patriotic?

I’m confused. It used to be if you loved your country and were willing to die for it, you were a patriot. Now, if you dislike your government and refuse to follow the rules it sets forth, you’re a patriot.

If you were willing to give your life to protect your fellow soldier, you were a patriot. Now, if you refuse to wear a face mask to protect your fellow citizens, you’re a patriot. Why, even the simple act of getting a haircut qualifies you to be a patriot. Crazy times indeed.
