Dramatic transformation turns outdated kitchen into a modern, family-friendly space

Sleek, stylish and easy-to-maintain counters and backsplash complete the look

When the bones of a space are good – the size suits your family and the layout flows and functions well, for example – a few fresh elements can be all that’s needed to completely transform a home.

It’s something April Peterson, Granite Transformations marketing manager, can now share with clients from first-hand experience!

“Our home is just over 20 years old and there are a lot of things we want to fix up and modernize,” April explains.

With three young children, the kitchen was first on the list.

“The kitchen was our first indoor project. We were really tired of the oak cabinets and white tile countertops with grout you just couldn’t keep clean – especially with the frequent spills that come with kids,” April says.

“We wanted something that was easy to clean and easy to maintain, and that also looked modern and updated.”

With new cabinets in place it was time to turn to the counters, and for this they chose Granite Transformations’ environmentally friendly engineered stone countertop and backsplash in Pietra del Cardoso – “a stylish, warm gray, with a little movement and a slight sparkle,” April says.

Part of a tri-level home, they also removed a banister, replacing it with a new bank of cabinets, topped with a countertop eating bar in the same gray – the ideal place to enjoy a refreshment while watching the game in the adjacent family room.

The importance of planning

While installation took less than a day all together, the process began with the template visit two to three weeks before installation – an important step in the process that identifies any technical challenges with the design, so you can address them ahead of installation day.

In April’s case, because of the lengthy span of the back wall, they chose to add a tile detail behind the stove, to eliminate the need for a seam in the backsplash. The template process also identified a small challenge with the sink that was easily addressed.

From design, through templating, to installation, working with the experienced team at Granite Transformations lets homeowners create the ideal look for their unique space.

For April, with the kitchen complete, the bathrooms will be next, with the help once again of the Granite Transformations team.

”Everything was so easy, and now the kitchen is so fresh that we want to get started on the rest of the house!”
