The flight crew testing a next-generation Boeing jumbo jet made a long trip for a taste of Pittsburgh’s most famous sandwich.
The crew manning a new $300 million 747-8 Freighter jet made the scheduled 2,500-mile test flight from outside Seattle to western Pennsylvania.
While the plane
was on the ground in Pittsburgh, the crew called in an order to go for a Primanti Bros. sandwich.
The jet made the flight as the aircraft maker wraps up reliability testing with a series of cross-country flights.
Boeing began test-flights of its 747-8 freighter in early 2010. The company expects to begin delivering the 747-8 Freighter this summer and its passenger sibling to airlines starting in 2012.
Flight test director Paul Shank said future trips will include flights to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for pasties and Maine for lobster rolls.
