747 ‘Father’ keeps an eye out for the 787

Joe Sutter, the brains behind Boeing’s 747, won’t be on hand for the rollout of the company’s newest plane, the 787, this Sunday.

The 86-year-old will be speaking at a memorial lecture series Monday. Read more about Sutter and the 787.

But Sutter will keep tabs on the new Dreamliner. Sutter says he may try to ride on the 787 during its test flights later this year in exchange for offering Boeing’s 787 team some “grandfatherly advice.”
