The Boeing Co.’s 787 assembly plant in South Carolina is ranked 14th in the Environmental Protection Agency’s list of renewable power purchasers among Fortune 500 companies.
It was 33rd overall among consumers of green energy, including governments and universities, the company said in a news release.
The North Charleston project buys enough renewable power to meet 100 percent of its energy needs, about 130 million kilowatt-hours.
It produces a portion of that itself from solar equipment on the roof of the 787 final assembly building.
“This shows our commitment to drive environmental thinking into the way we operate our company,” Mary Armstrong, Boeing vice president of environment, health and safety, said in the release.
