The world’s largest passenger plane is about to get even bigger.
Airbus says it will stretch its A380 superjumbo jet to accommodate 900 passengers, reports Bloomberg.
“I can’t discuss it but there’s an awful lot of interest in the A380,” said John Leahy, Airbus’s chief salesman, in the interview at the Dubai Air Show yesterday. “We’ve got a lot of different discussions going on around the world.”
Top A380 customer Emirates says it’s interested in the stretched superjumbo, which it would use to seat about 750 people. Emirates President Tim Clark noted that about two-thirds of his airlines orders for the A380 would be for the stretched version if it was available already.
Airbus aims to begin developing the larger A380 in 2010.
Nine-hundred passengers – that’s just mind-blowing. That’s about half the size of my hometown!
