Airbus beat rival Boeing Co. to the punch, picking up the most orders on opening day of the world’s biggest air show in Paris.
On Monday, Airbus announced orders from U.S. Airways, Qatar Airlines, Emirates, Jazeera Airways and Nouvelair. The European planemaker received requests not only for its single-aisle A320s but also for its problem-plagued A380 and A350 jets.
Boeing took orders for its 777 freighters and Renton-built 737 jets from GE Commercial Aviation Services and Jakarta-based Lion Air.
The weeklong international air show typically serves as a backdrop for an intense competition between the two manufacturers for airline orders.
