The Boeing Co.’s rival, Airbus, announced Wednesday that it will slow production on its A380 superjumbo jet.
The European company plans to deliver 14 A380s this year, down from the 18 deliveries it had scheduled. The change comes as a result of the “current economic and aviation crisis and following specific customer requests for deferrals,” Airbus said in a statement.
As a result of the production shift, Airbus will deliver more than the 20 A380s scheduled in 2010. After that, however, production and deliveries of the double-decker will be subject to airline demand and availability of financing, the company said.
Airbus intends to deliver 483 aircraft to customers this year. That’s the same number of jets it delivered in 2008.
