BOTHELL — AT&T Wireless Services warned 150 information technology workers on Monday and Tuesday that they will be laid off by the end of March.
In addition to the workers at the company’s Bothell offices, an additional 70 workers will be trimmed from other locations.
Spokesman Mike DiGioia said the affected workers were told of the layoffs, and will receive formal written notices next week. All will be given severance packages, including outplacement assistance and counseling if needed.
DiGioia wouldn’t comment on any additional layoffs from the company’s information technology ranks. Media reports have indicated hundreds more could lose their jobs before the summer ends.
Also unknown is what effect Cingular’s purchase of AT&T Wireless will have on the local workforce.
DiGioia added, however, that the company’s overall employee count in the area is up by 270, because of hiring in other departments.
In Western Washington, the Redmond-based company employs 5,700 people.
That includes about 2,200 workers in its south Snohomish County offices, which serves as headquarters for the firm’s information technology department. Customer service representatives also work in the Bothell offices.
