So, it’s an old subject in this blog, but there’s a fresh new crop of articles from the nation’s business journals that focus on how every region wants to be the next biotech hub.
These stories usually talk about that and why it can’t be possible for EVERYONE to be the next hub. Then it goes on to talk about why the region the story is about will be the one that breaks out …
All this at a time when the Puget Sound region, which is a recognized hub – albeit minor compared to the likes of Boston and the San Francisco area – is fretting about its in the biotech world. Anyway, here’s the first “biotech fever” story: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9575670/
Key quote (thanks to fellow Herald blogger Bryan Corliss for the idea of highlighting the key quotes): “Biotechnology is the latest ‘It Girl,’ ” said Rob DeRocker, executive vice president of Development Counsellors International, a New York City-based firm that works with economic development organizations around the world.
Here’s some more stories about other regions’ efforts to attract biotech. From Birmingham, Alabama (really!): http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9575652/
… to New York state: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9575636/ … and even Malaysia: http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BT/Monday/Nation/20051002201209/Article/
