Diana Akopyan has been hired as a travel agent by the Lynnwood office of AAA. She will work with all aspects of leisure travel.

Nick Anderson has been hired as vice president and treasury management director for Cascade Bank of Everett. He has worked for the bank for the past 14 years.

Darren Fricke has been promoted to manager of HomeStreet Bank’s residential lending branch in Mountlake Terrace. He has been with the company for 22 years.

Sherrye Wyatt, public relations and marketing manager for Whidbey & Camano Islands Tourism, has earned the award of excellence in destination marketing from the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association.

Casey Wilson-Williams, Matthew Postma and Nick Bundy, all members of Sheet Metal Workers Local 66 in Everett, placed first in their categories at the international competition in Las Vegas earlier this month. Wilson-Williams won in testing, adjusting and balancing; Postma won in architectural; and Bundy won in HVAC.

Kyle Nowadnick, a representative of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Monroe, is traveling to El Salvador in May to help build a community of homes in a partnership between Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity International.

Moves

Everett-based Intermec has purchased Enterprise Mobile for an undisclosed amount. Enterprise, of Massachusetts, offers a variety of services and equipment relating to mobile computing devices used to track inventory. It will be part of Intermec’s Global Solutions unit.

Events

An informational meeting on the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce trip to Tuscany is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chamber office at Suite 205 of Comcast Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave. A session on a trip to China in October is scheduled for the same time and place on April 12.

Classes

Edmonds Community College will offer online classes this spring in emergency management. Professionals in business continuity and in emergency management will be instructors in the classes, which run from April 4 to June 17. The classes can lead to a certificate in emergency management or a two-year degree in emergency management and business continuity. Call 425-640-1459 to register.

Information about the Everett Community College small business acceleration programs will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in Suite 373 at the college’s Monroe campus at 14090 Fryelands Blvd. SE and from 6 to 7 p.m. March 30 at the college’s Corporate & Continuing Education Center, 2333 Seaway Blvd. in Everett. The 10-month program is limited to 20 people and it is designed to help businesses increase their profitability through a combination of classes, one-on-one coaching and a network of entrepreneurs. A seminar in Small Business Administration loans will be offered from 7 to 8:15 p.m. April 28 by First Heritage Bank. It will be in Room 105 of Whitehorse Hall at Everett Community College. A free business workshop on getting started with WordPress will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sultan City Council chambers at 319 Main St. Mayor Carolyn Eslick and Jeff Cofer, president of the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce, will host. Beginning livestock handling and care will be offered April 9 and 10 at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena, 5421 S. Machias Road, north of Snohomish by the Snohomish County Extension Service. The hands-on workshops start at 9 a.m. and will include topics like injections, halter training, nutrition, fencing and hoof trimming. Separate classes will involve poultry, beef, swine, goats and sheep.

Awards

Collector’s Choice Restaurant and McDaniel’s Do-it Center received Excellence in Business awards last week from the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce. The restaurant was selected as a local business that is expanding as others downsize. The Do-it center was picked for its approach to the recession: offering quality products and working hard to build customer loyalty.

Snohomish County has received an award for financial reporting and transparency from the Government Finance Officers Association.

Cascade Bank of Everett was presented with the President’s Award and named Best of Industry by United Way of Snohomish County for its 2010 fundraising. The President’s Award honors the best campaign of the year. Cascade employees raised more the $70,000 to benefit United Way. Cascade also won the award in 2009.

Bel Red Energy Solutions of Mukilteo was recognized for reaching the highest level of sales in Washington state for York Affinity heating and cooling equipment. The company has been in the Puget Sound area for more than 25 years.

Mountlake Terrace has been awarded a certificate of achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association for its financial reporting. It’s the fourth year in a year the city has received the award.
