Diane Gillespie, a professor of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington’s Bothell campus, has received a distinguished teaching award. Gillespie joined the faculty in 1998. The award is given each year to a faculty member who has demonstrated sustained excellence.
John and Sue Smythe, co-owners of CMIT Solutions in Everett, have won the national company’s President’s Award for their commitment to collaboration with other franchisees. The Smythes worked with eight other franchises in the Seattle area to develop a cooperative regional marketing program and the company’s first television advertising.
James Kellett and Cherry McLachlan of an Edwards Jones branch in Everett recently received the financial service firm’s client service excellence award.

The Everett Farmers Market is now open for the summer with a full compliment of fresh produce and other foods, flowers and plants. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Sunday through Sept. 26 at 1600 W. Marine View Drive on the waterfront just north of the Navy base.
Everett retailer Zumiez Inc. will deliver presentations at two investor conferences in June. A Piper Jaffray presentation is scheduled for June 8 in New York and a William Blair presentation is set for June 16 in Chicago. Active and retired members of the military and their spouses can get a 5 percent discount on grocery items each Tuesday until July 6 at TOP Food &Drug. Customers just need to show their identification cards at checkout stands to receive the discounts. Alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets, gift cards and stamps are ineligible for a discount.
Good deeds
Housing Hope has received a $20,000 grant from Safeco Insurance Foundation to help maintain its services for homeless families in a shelter and transitional housing program.
Fred Meyer customers donated $8,848.28 to the Everett School District by dropping change into coin boxes at the checkstand. The district received the money last week, part of $367,382 collected by the company at 130 stores in the Northwest during an eight-month period.
Bartell Drugs has launched a food drive to help Northwest Harvest. It will be collect nonperishable items and cash donations until June 13. Last year, the drive collected 16,767 pounds of food in Snohomish, King and Pierce counties.
